The art of fueling

Maurten's mission began with the engineering of Hydrogel Technology. This technology is designed to help mitigate GI discomfort and bypass the fueling limitations during training and racing.

The hydrogel is composed of polymer chains that hold a large amount of water while maintaining structure. Mauten extracts alginate from seaweed and pectin found in fruit fibers; that is why these gels are not a runny syrup but a gel-like consistency.

Once consumed, the gel moves through the GI tract from the stomach to the small intestine; in simple terms, the product sinks to the bottom of your digestive system, then releases the carbohydrates thus they can be absorbed as fuel.

Drink Mix

Meet your next fueling partner, Maurten Drink Mix comes in three different formulas: Drink Mix 160, 320, and 320 Caf. These mixes are designed as a high-carb sports fuel that uses Hydrogel Technology. Utilizing the same technology as gel, this drinkable gel transforms a liquid into a gel upon contact with stomach acid. This hydrogel also reduces the sensation of liquid bouncing in the stomach.

This fueling system can be used to fuel longer, low-intensity training and racing. Our team typically takes Drink Mix 320 the night before a long session or race and Drink Mix 160 the morning of a session.

Solid 160

These are two-piece oat- and rice-based bars. These are chewable fuel bars in two different flavours: plain and cocoa. These bars can be easily used for preloading or replenishing carbohydrates. Our team utilizes these bars for pre-run fuel or for cross-training adventures. Designed to be used before training to load up on carbs, as a pre-race breakfast or for carb-loading before a race.

Maurten BiCarb System

The newest Maurten product available at Culture Athletics, the Bicarb system, uses Hydrogel Technology to encapsulate the bicarb (Sodium Bicarbonate) and carry it through the stomach to be absorbed.

Designed to be taken 1.5-2 hours before exercise, priming the body to cope better with rising muscle acidity during anaerobic exercise.
